Cafe Bibliotic Hello!

A BOOK CAFE HOUSED IN A 130YRS MACHIYA!

In one of my favourite areas of Kyoto, Nakagyo ward right nearby, probably the area I stay the most whenever I visit (near Karasuma-oike station) is this gorgeous local cafe that’s been around for roughly 20 years.

A favourite with the locals, it’s housed in a 130year old Machiya, and is resplendent with a stunning amount of vivid green indoor plants & walls upon walls of design books, photography books, architecture etc (anything a creative mind would love) that you can freely peruse.

Housed in a machiya, loads of books & plants - you can see why it’s one of my favourite places to chill when in Kyoto

FIND A COZY LITTLE NOOK

The interiors are exemplary of the Machiya architecture with exposed heavy wooden beams in deep hues, high ceilings and a balcony 2nd floor where one can find more books and cozy little seating areas.

It’s great to stop in for a quick coffee or leisurely lunch, think salads, sandwiches, Japanese curries with lunch sets available.

There is also a small but sweet dessert menu

So if you just need a place to chill one day after having enough of seeing the popular sights and the numerous crowds, head to this more local area.

Honestly Karasuma -oike and surrounding areas is where I utterly love to just wile my days away in Kyoto (with the very occasional sightseeing)

NEARBY KYOTO ACCOMMODATION (places I’ve stayed within ~30mins walk)
